Letter to the Members:
Hello everyone! My name is Kayla Poling. I am serving as the State FFA president. I grew up in Yukon, Oklahoma, until about seventh grade when I moved to Durant, Oklahoma, and enrolled at Silo Public Schools, where I joined the FFA. I am the middle child with an older sister (Adriana), and a younger brother (John). My parents are John and Daniela Poling. My high school ag teachers were Brandon and Tara Brown.

I do not come from an extensive agricultural background, but in eighth grade I was working on my schedule, and I could have either taken an ag class or FCS. Luckily, I chose the intro to ag class. This class was my first introduction to FFA. I tried out for the opening and closing ceremonies, and from then on I was hooked. I would later that year begin memorizing my first speech. Then, that spring I joined Silo FFA’s nursery/landscape CDE team.

Freshman year got pretty exciting for me; before Covid-19 hit I received my first set of show lambs, and also I competed in my all-time favorite FFA event, the Greenhand Quiz Contest. Throughout the rest of my FFA career I have competed in numerous FFA LDEs and CDEs including extemporaneous public speaking, proficiency awards and livestock judging.

I joined FFA by chance, but it was the best thing that has ever happened to me. My life would be completely different if I was not in FFA. I am thankful for all the opportunities and lessons I have gained from this organization. At first I thought FFA was just a farming class; I am happy to know that I could not have been more wrong. I have gained my best friends, my dearest memories and the greatest lessons I have learned through this organization.

FFA and agricultural education has given me valuable experience in the agriculture industry while allowing me to learn critical leadership skills. I have too many hilarious moments to share but most of my favorites revolve around making TikToks with my advisers and chapter members. I have never been more excited than for the year ahead. I can not wait for all the fun and opportunities to serve. Thank you, Oklahoma FFA.
